Green Valley Theatre Company is proud to present Jez Butterworth’s “Jerusalem.” Deep within “England’s green and pleasant land” Johnny Rooster Byron sits outside his trailer and overlooks the St. George’s Day festivities in the local town. He is a former daredevil motorcyclist, drifter, waster, general Pied Piper, and a wanted man. The council wants to serve him an eviction notice, his motley crew of mates wants his ample supply of illicit fortitude, Troy Whitworth wants to pound him with a metal pipe, and Marky wants his dad to take him to the fair. Jerusalem is a bawdy, drug- and booze-fueled exploration of England’s national identity, life on the margins of society, and the inherent necessity of rebellion.

One Response to Jerusalem

  1. Saw a review of your show in the SN&R today (June 23). Kudos, it’s a challenging production, I regret being unable to attend. Couldn’t help noticing the reviewer’s language to the effect that your production is the US off-Broadway premiere, and I’d like to take this opportunity to set the record straight. That honor belongs to Shasta College, who under the directorship of Robert Soffian staged it in March of this year. That said, best of luck in your home stretch. We were in contact with a group in Edinburgh who was going up just as we were wrapping, and there is, I think, a certain kinship between anyone who has wrestled with this extraordinary project. In that spirit, welcome to the family.

    Come, you giants!
